Faithless Elector, James McCrone

December, 2016:  Everyone thinks the election is over… An idealistic young researcher uncovers a series of deaths among Electors and must race against time and a secret, deadly efficient conspiracy.  There are less than three weeks until the real presidential election.

When Matthew Yamashita discovers a series of unexplained deaths among Electors, he and his advisor must work to get the information out and stop the plot.  They are joined by an FBI agent.  Although initially sceptical, she, too, begins to glimpse just how deep the conspiracy goes.

Theirs becomes a race against time to get their information to light before the Electors meet on December 19, 2016. The conspirators always seem one step ahead of them, and it’s unclear who, if anyone, they can trust. The stakes could not be higher. If the plot succeeds, the government itself would no longer derive its “just powers from the consent of the governed.”

Faithless Elector can only be described as a nail-biting, tense, political thriller. It is a novel with a story that is shocking, thrilling, and incredibly telling of the worlds current political affairs.. This story was extremely well paced and I ended up racing through it in a matter of days. There is a constant feel of tension when you read this novel, it is a novel that does not let up once and for that it is already one of my favourite political thrillers of all time! Here is a little bit more about this beautifully written novel.

Our novel begins with one of the novels main characters; Matthew Yamashita. Matthew has a project and that is to track how individual members of the Electoral College use their vote. However, when seven of these delegates die in unexplained accidents within a short period of time, he begins to suspect a conspiracy is happening and that conspiracy is to shift the election results for the next President of the USA.

At this point in the novel we are introduced to Matthew’s friend Jerry; He does this because he needs his help into looking into Matthew’s allegation. However, sadly the next day Jerry suspiciously dies in a car wreck and not long after Matthew is ran over whilst riding his bicycle. You can already see a pattern emerging here.

Soon we are introduced to our other main character and that is Duncan. Duncan is drawn into this conspiracy and finds it suspicious when Matthew’s keys and laptop are both missing from the accident site as well as articles from Mathew’s room. Things soon start to get desperate for Duncan as he experiences break ins at his home and office all whilst he suspects he is being watched by somebody.

Out of sheer desperation Duncan contacts the only person he knows and trusts and that is Imogen Trager who works at the FBI. This is where our novel begins and from this point onwards the plot becomes even more intense as the action and thrilling aspects escalate and Duncan and Imogen must find out the truth to this conspiracy before their life’s are in real peril.

Faithless Elector is a novel that shocked me to my core. Growing up I always loved Politics, I found it fascinating and found the deceit, corruption and many other aspects also fascinating. How somebody will stab somebody in the back to get ahead always intrigued me so my love of politics made me really intrigued about this novel.

This novel is an incredible, suspense/action novel all rolled into one tense, intelligent, gripping political thriller. It is a novel that is very shocking in nature but it is also incredibly gripping at the same time. It is a novel that asks the reader many questions and asks them to examine the current political affairs we are seeing today.

Our author James McCrone has done an incredible job writing this novel. His words shocked and surprised me relentlessly with his taut, fast-paced plot that is incredibly intelligent. The story blew me away and I adored how all of the threads from the different plot avenues were strung together beautifully in a clever and cohesive way. He takes you right inside the election process which makes you feel as if you are right there. It was fascinating to be able to drawn into the world of U.S. politics and I truly am so happy I read this novel. Plus I really adored how McCrone wrote about the election system perfectly without any confusing details so thank you so much for this McCrone!

To conclude my thoughts if you adore the Tv show Scandal or the movie The Ides of March or any political movie, Tv show or book then you will adore this novel! It is a novel that is fast-paced and thrilling, besides, it is only just over 200 pages so it must be good if it is that short! I would recommend also that if you do not typically read political books then I think you would still love this novel due to its genius nature. This wonderful, thought-provoking novel gets Four Stars from me!

  1. I met James McCrone last October at a book festival in New Jersey, and was immediately drawn to his title. I bought Faithless Elector on the spot, because our U.S. Presidential election was coming up in November and I knew I wanted to read this book before I voted. (Although, it certainly could be read and enjoyed anytime.) I read it straight through, trying to determine who were the “good guys” and who were the “baddies!” I was fascinated by the winding road to the truth that this author paved. Great book! Thank you for reviewing it here!
