Rampage, Alan Brenham

The stakes soar, both professionally and personally, for Austin PD Detective Jason Scarsdale as he finds himself in a race against time to hunt down a vicious gang hell-bent on murder. Realizing that his new partner, the attractive divorcee Tatum Harper, could be trouble in more ways than one, he tries to run her out of Homicide. Will their partnership destroy his romantic relationship with long-time girlfriend Dani Mueller? Will they both survive the harrowing face-off with the increasingly unhinged gang leader?

Rampage is another incredible novel from a fast becoming favourite author mine named Alan Brenham. Benham’s novels of late have captivated and enthralled me; His experience and background in law enforcement as well as him being an excellent writer makes his thrillers novels some of the best out there today so I am so happy that he has wrote a sequel to his novel Price of Justice as that novel was beyond incredible! This novel may give away a few spoilers to the first novel so please go and read my review of Price of Justice first and then read the book and come back here to read all about Rampage! Here is a little bit more about this enthralling novel.

Just like in Price of Justice our novel is set in Austin, Texas and it follows the same protagonist in the first novel; Jason Scarsdale on his journey as a single parent to his young daughter Shannon and his journey as a detective which sees him get involved with reckless gangs and criminals. Our novel opens with a man called ‘Mad Dog’ but of course this is just a nickname and his real name is Justin Wayne Cooper and we see him doing some not so pleasant things in a cemetery. This is where we are soon introduced to Snake, his previous cell mate and Snake had asked Mad Dog to take revenge on people who Snake had feel wronged him and soon Mad Dog, Rastaman and The Runt commit a series of brutal killings. Our novel then follows Jason as he tries to bring down these ruthless men and restore order once again.

Once again Alan Brenham has wrote an exceptional thriller. The pacing of this story and its plot is excellent, never once does this novel tire or become boring but instead the excitement of the novel never lets up once… even towards the end! The ending itself was so brilliant and I cannot stop thinking about it!

Brenham’s narration of his action filled scenes are vivid and wonderfully, and cleverly described, so much so that he draws the reader’s attention to the tiniest details and it builds a vivid picture in the readers mind. What I loved about this novel also was that he managed to expand on a much loved character and that is Jason Scarsdale. I loved how he had managed to add more depth to his character as it improved the whole novel. I love how Jason is a hardened man as well as being a sweet father but do not let this confuse you as he is still ruthless when he wants to be and I loved how he knows all about the criminal underworld! Personally I could definitely see Jason Scarsdale becoming a household name and could envision these book being made into a movie or TV series… that would be perfect actually!

To summarise my thoughts on Rampage I would say if you are looking for a novel that is original, thrilling, intense and beyond griping then you will adore this! It is a novel that will keep you turning the pages with anticipation and never once does the tension let up. This novel gets Four Stars from me!
