Price of Justice, Alan Brenham

His focus is on solving the murders—until the unthinkable happens…

Recently widowed, Austin Police Detective Jason Scarsdale works to solve the murders of two pedophiles, while trying to be both mother and father to his five-year-old daughter. During his investigation, Scarsdale is forced to navigate between the crosshairs of two police commanders out to get him. Drawn to Austin Police Crime Analyst, Dani Mueller, who has also suffered tragedy, Scarsdale fights both his attraction and his suspicions that something just isn’t right…

She is hiding a secret, one that could not only cost her a job—it could end her life…

Dani hides a deadly past. After her daughter was brutally murdered, Dani exacted her revenge then changed her name and fled to Austin. But if her secret ever gets out, she knows there is no place she can hide from the murderer’s vicious family.

Pulled into a web of malice and deceit, Scarsdale and Dani discover the value of breaking the rules. Then just when they thought things couldn’t get worse…they do.

Price of Justice is a shocking, disturbing, unputdownable book that has now become one of my favourite thriller novels of all time. Wow, this book is seriously good my mind is still in shock from the glory that lies between these pages! This perfect novel has everything you could ever wish for from a thriller/detective novel… it has incredible, hard-hitting action that will floor you, it has corruption and deceit that will shock you and lastly it has an incredible, bad ass, likeable detective. Here is a little bit more about this brilliant novel!

Our novel focuses on a few different characters and not just the novels detective Jason Scarsdale. When we first start to read this novel the reader is introduced to a woman name Dani Mueller. Dani lived in Sacramento but she soon relocated to Austin, Texas when something horrendous happened to her. Her daughter was sadly and brutally murdered and when the man accused of this terrible crime was acquitted…. and then beaten and murdered, the family’s first thought was of course that Dani had killed him for revenge and so they started to unnecessarily harass and stalk poor Dani and so when life became too unbearable she decided to pack up, relocate and move to Texas, change her name and start her life afresh. Fast forward a few pages and Dani is soon working as a crime scene investigator in Texas. Dani as a part of her job ends up attending the trial of a man who has murdered a child close to her own daughters age and when this man too is acquitted it sends a deep rage into Dani and she decides to take justice into her own hands and to unleash revenge on this man but bizarrely somebody has already beaten her too it… who could this be? You will have to read to find out!

This is the point in the novel where we are soon introduced to Jason Scarsdale who is a detective in Austin Texas. Like Dani, Jason has experienced great loss too after the tragedy of losing his wife recently. Jason has a child and when he bumps into Dani at work she convinces him to bring his five year old daughter Shannon to work for ‘bring your child to work day’ and Shannon and Dani soon bond which is beautiful to read as Shannon has lost a mother and Dani has lost a daughter.

The novel soon picks up around now and Jason becomes involved in two gruesome murder investigations and when Dani becomes a victim of being stalked again the reader follows them both on their journeys through alternating narratives and let me tell you know it makes for a compelling read!

Price of Justice is an impeccable novel with not one single flaw. It is a novel that features heavily on its characters and this was amazing to see. I loved how our author managed to paint a vivid picture of what Austin is like especially for the police department. Our author Alan Brenham definitely knows all about law enforcement and that is evident to the reader from very early on. Brenham has done a superb job of writing memorable, realistic characters and Jason, Dani and Shannon are beyond perfect and I really have to applaud Brenham for this creating such fantastic novels and for writing such a brilliant novel.

To summarise my thoughts on this thrilling novel I would say if you love stories which are full of unexpected twists and turns then you will adore this. This novel gets Five Stars from me!

      1. Right now I’m trying to find good books on blogs and other recommendation sites. I just can’t seem to find good books by randomly choosing them.
