Duality, R. James Stevens

Salvation. Redemption. Discovery.

The world has lived behind a dark shroud since the cataclysmic Event of 2077 – a solar flare the likes of which has never been recorded, destroying all technology. Two-thirds of the population has perished in the aftermath of the Event itself, or from rampant violence plaguing the world over.

2084: In the aftermath of a set of horrific events leading to his childhood friend’s death, Brigadier Stroud, a former Black Ops commando from the elite Epsilon Warriors squadron, stumbles upon the secret the world was never supposed to know – a portal hidden in a remote area of the New Mexico desert.

With the rest of the world shrouded in the darkness caused by the Event of 2077, Brig finds himself thrust into the middle of multiple converging conflicts that threaten to shift the balance of power in a world without power. Can he and his comrades keep their strained relationships bound long enough to overcome disaster and save the day, or will ghosts of the past halt them in their tracks?

Once again R. James Stevens has wrote an epic tale that will hook and intrigue you from beginning to end. Duality is the second novel in the authors Epsilon series with the first novel being Clarity. Click on the words Clarity wrote throughout my review to read my review of the first book! Of course this review will have very minor spoilers to the plot of Clarity and the story as a whole so if you do not want to be spoiled then read my review of Clarity, read the novel and then come back here to read all about its sequel!

Duality follows the aftermath of the cataclysmic event which sadly happened in the first novel. It takes the reader on a journey through the apocalyptic world and what life is now like for the survivors after the devastating event which destroyed all technology and killed millions upon millions of the world’s population. However our novel focuses on much more than the disaster itself. It follows the same characters the readers grew to love in the first novel and dark events happen when some of the survivors discover a secret the world was never supposed to know and this is where our terrifying tale begins.

Previously in my review I stated how the author R. James Stevens has once again wrote a brilliant novel and I want to expand on this just like he expanded his brilliant world. Stevens has done just this… expand the world he so perfectly created in Clarity; I always admire when an author manages to find new and interesting things about a world the author already has created, it shows how imaginative Stevens is how he managed to do this with his already brilliant story and world. He still has much more to tell about his dark apocalyptic near future and this is evident to the reader very early on and because it is so evident it implores the reader to keep reading and that shows true talent from a literary mind.

To summarise my thoughts on this epic tale I would say if you adore apocalyptic novels that are full of terrifying moments as well as hopeful ones then you will adore this. This wonderful novel gets Four Stars from me!
