Pay to Play, Michael Lowecki

Imagine going from managing a multimillion-dollar company to whiling your days away in federal prison. For Michael Lowecki, it seems like a nightmare, but it is his reality.

Lowecki is living his dream life. His landscaping business has made him a multimillionaire, and he has a wife and two children he absolutely adores. The dream swiftly and shockingly turns into this nightmare.

After an FBI probe, Lowecki is federally indicted and sent to Leavenworth, Kansas, to serve his prison term. Lowecki has read up on life in prison, but nothing could have prepared him for the actual experience. He encounters unbelievable violence and even death as Prisoner #18099-424. Both the guards and his fellow inmates have the power to make his life a living hell. At the same time, Lowecki’s wife and children are facing their own challenges.

Learn how Lowecki survives his prison sentence and follow him back out into the real world. Lowecki may be free, but he finds himself in a different kind of prison. In this intense memoir, he chronicles his life both on the inside and on the outside of the penitentiary system.

Pay to Play is a fascinating memoir that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. It is a different kind of read for me as I never usually read memoirs; actually I think I have only read one other memoir and that was by Mimi Alford detailing her affair with JFK. My point is that autobiographies as a genre does not usually fascinate me and if I do read a memoir then it has to be incredible… As I am writing this now I can happily write that Pay to Play was beyond exceptional and it deserves all the attention in the world! Here is a little bit more about this wonderful memoir.

Our memoir follows the rise and decline of Michael Lowecki. Lowecki was living the dream after having turned his high-school landscaping business into a multi-million dollar business however he faced many challenges as his business grew and so he eventually was made an example of by a Judge due to his mistakes and he paid heavily for those mistakes by serving time in Leavenworth Penitentiary. I wont discuss how his decline happened because it is meant to be read in this novel so I truly implore all of you to read this memoir!

Lowecki takes the reader on a personal journey, we learn a lot about his life; how he met the love of his life, how he questioned his work ethic and how he suffered family tragedy. By this point in the novel you cannot help but already like Lowecki and you get a real sense that you know him as he is taking you on his journey. However of course it all goes wrong soon for Lowecki and when it does it is hard to read because you have already become accustomed to him and his thinking but also his family so it is a hard read but it is gripping at the same time because you so desperately want to know what is going to happen to him.

The writing in this novel is incredibly vivid and thought-provoking. You get a real sense of dread as you read this novel as their is an air or tension about it due to not knowing what was going to happen. It may be a feeling of dread but it is a gripping feeling that excites you and makes you read even faster and this is all down to Loweckis incredible writing. I am beyond impressed by how he vividly described so many aspects and I am very impressed how he wrote his inner thoughts and translated them to page so exceptionally well.

To conclude my thoughts I would say that this is an incredible story with a well written plot that gives the reader an amazing insight into prison life but also to the mind and thinking patterns of a prisoner; which is beyond fascinating to me as a lover of psychology! Pay to Play is spectacular and is a book you would find hard to put down. The author done an exceptional job of painting an honest ad vivid picture of life on the inside and at times you felt as if you was there right with him. With all of this combined it makes for a thrilling, unforgettable memoir and for that I have to give this book Four Stars!
